In the 14th Century, the Bran Castle formed part of a whole border citadel.
It was first proposed on November 19, 1377 and built in 1378 on the summit of
a gigantic rock formation. The purpose of the Bran Castle was the defence and
the monitoring of the commercial road that connected the province of Walachia
to Transylvania. It has also served as a customs house, a royal residence and
today, a history and feudal art museum. |
| You recognize him, don't you! He is Prince
Vlad Tepes, who would have lived in the castle. It is true that he was very bloody,
but not as portrayed by the fictional character of "Dracula" as written
by the English author, Bram Stoker. |
