its the main city in Prahova County.Oil has been refined in Ploiesti since 1857
, accouting for Romania's ranking as first in Europe ans sixth in the world in
oil production between WWI and WWII.In 1936 Romania produced 8.7 million tons
of oil.Sadly , since the mid-1970s Ploiesti's oilfields have rapidly declined.

| Ploiesti is noted for its Clock Museum
(Muzeul Ceasului) , housed in a 19th-century building on str.Nicolae Simache.Numerous
types of clocks ,including an 18th-century rococo Austrian clock that belonged
to the Wallachian prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza are displayed ; open 9 am to 5 pm
Tuesday to Sunday. |
