Maramures
Traditions and Customs |
|
|
| Maramures
lies in a hidden corner of Europe , but the inhabitants give the impression that
they live as if they were at the centre of the world .They have long led an almost
self-sufficient existence , based on agriculture and the rearing of animals. |
|
| | |
| At festival times , or during a ceremony ,
people with deep religious feelings seem to be able to pass freely from one universe
to another. | |
| | |
| Traditions and customs that have been perpetuated
over the centuries have about them a special beauty that makes you feel inspired.
| | |
| Colourful traditional folk costumes , each bearing
motifs typical to each village , are donned for special hilidays . The rest of
the year , men set off for the fields in their sober-coloured ,wide-bottomed trousers
decorated with 30 cm-wide leather belts , while women do their chores in coarse
navy-blue or black linen skirts , and cardigans .
| | |
| The girls will also make beautiful embroideries for their costumes
or for towels and curtains. Each geographical area has its specific models and
colours. |
