A little history… The
beginnings of this holy place get lost in the depths of history. The oldest testimonies
date back to the 15th Century and indicate that there was once a wooden church
and rooms for the monks who stayed there. The present church was built by nobleman
Constantin Dinu Parlogea. A devout parishioner, he then became a monk and was
later appointed to be the Staretz of the community. |
| | |
 | The
old church of the convent was completed in 1828 and decoratively painted in 1832
(by the school of Tatarscu). In 1960, after a long period of tranquility,
the lives of the monks were seriously disrupted by outside forces, causing them
untold suffering. Because the monks were obliged to leave the convent, the community
was dissolved and the convent was then used as a church in Izvoarele's parish,
according to the "evil 410 decree".
|

 | The
flame of the isihaste life was rekindled in 1967, when the Patriarch Iustinian
reopened the monastery, declaring it to be part of the Sinaia's convent.
|
| | |
 | The
community continued to expand. It now has 35 monks residing in the old and new
buildings. Through God's holy providence, a new church was founded on the site
and was consecrated by the Holy Father Patriarch Teoctist on October 18, 1998. |
